Consolidation of Learning (DanQi)

In the past few lessons, i learnt how pictures speak a thousand words, they allow you to somehow know what is happening and what are the feelings of the people. Some pictures make you think about the how the society is really is.
In the lesson 'Poverty', i realised that there are alot of people who are poor, and that they have to use weird means to obtain money. Examples are: they used babies to make people pity them and to give them money. They join syndicates that take most of the money they 'earned'.

Consolidation of learning (Xing jian)

I had learnt to study photo from different perspectives. Sometime the obvious information we can obtain from the photo always blind our way of thinking. So we should think deeper and harder to uncover the true meaning of the photo. Most of time, we not only need to stare at the photo, we will need to put ourselves in his/her position in the  photo and think how will he/her feel or act so that we could get more information from it. I will use the color red to describe my feeling, because throughout this three week, we are doing different things which makes me look forward to CID, as it's contents are not as dry as humanities and language subjects.

Image that represent horse year.

Lets welcome the arrival of the horse! Its a brand new year of the horse and chinatown singapore is decorated beautifully to welcome it. It pretty much heighten the chinese new year atmosphere doesn't it? Chinese new year is indeed a joyous occassion and lets wish every one a HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!.

Symbols of Chinese New Year

During Chinese New Year, the young give oranges to the elders in a form of respect. In return, the elders give the young, angpao, which contains money. This action is to wish both sides a happy new year. They do this for every Chinese New Year. The young usually give not only one, but a pair of oranges during Chinese New Year to the elders. Orange colour also symbolizes good luck. That's one of the reasons they use oranges in Chinese New Year.

It is a form of respect for the young to give oranges to their elders during Chinese New Year.

Things I learnt

I mainly learnt how to observe the various types of pictures shown to me. As they say, a picture says a thousand words. With my observation, I can roughly tell what is happening in a picture. We must take in everything we see in a picture and then tell what is happening. If we do not observe carefully, we might not understand the picture. Thus, during the last three lessons, I learnt how to observe carefully and understand what a picture is trying to tell you. Observation skills can also be used in our daily lives. With more practice, we can sharpen it and it will be useful to us in one way or another, by observing a picture, we can tell roughly when the picture was taken and other things that are included. Therefore, I really hope that CID 2 will give us more opportunities to sharpen our observation skills.

Symbol of chinese new year.

Hello! Do you recognise the person in the picture?.

Yes! Its the famous god of fortune! Well, everyone likes him and wishes he smiles at you. Who doesn't want a good fortune? Therefore i feel that he is the symbol for chinese new year as he symbolise wealth and fortune. Its a brand new year and a brand new start, therefore a good fortune ahead will motivate us to work for the better.

Colour that symbolises CHINESE NEW YEAR!

Color we've chosen: Red

We've chosen the auspicious red colour which you can see on countless of chinese new year decorations because it denotes good luck, fortune and happiness, abundance. After all it will be a new year in the chinese calander, we would always want to wash off our bad luck and welcome a happy and successful new year, wouldn't you think the same way? Well, therefore, it may be the most suitable colour to represent chinese new year.  It brings out the ambience doesn't it?

Reflection of Dec holiday by Meng Hong

I
went to China during the holidays. I wasn't doing anything special, just going for piano and violin lessons. During weekdays and weekends, I go for tuition. I regret not going to do something to help the elderly since there's a old folks home near my house. Usually, I go to school to learn some things. However, this time, I chose to stay at home and go to tuition instead. I also regret not revising on my English worksheets since I am sure that I dropped a lot in my results. For the other subjects, I did do some of them. However, the thing I regret the most is the fact that I didn't study too much and only cared about enjoying myself. During the last week, I went to Shanghai. However, the MRT was too crowded and the PSI was quite high. Thus, I could only stay at home to do my holiday assignments. After that, I came back to Singapore, still regretting not able to concentrate on my studies during the holidays. Before school started, I stayed late into the night to watch the countdown of the new year. I watched it while doing my homework. At 1 o'clock, I slept. The next day was the last day of the holidays, which I used to rushed through my homework. I hope the the teachers could give me more homework so that I could gain more self discipline regarding my studies.

Reflection by DanQi

During the December holidays, i did not go anywhere except for Singapore. I went to a a buffet dinner hosted by my parents' close friend. I am the oldest child there, so i have to take care of the rest and play with them. I actually had a great time playing Nerf Guns and running about with them. I also tasted abit of beer, but it is too bitter.
Nearing the end of the December Holiday, i went to Singapore Botanic Gardens and saw some interesting sights: (Notes: all photos are taken by me XD)
Here is a mother swan hatching its egg. That was my first time seeing a swan hatching its own egg. There was also a sign outside saying that it will atrack anyone who goes close too its nest or when you try to disturb her.

This is our national flower, Vanda Miss Joaquim:
It had been a really long time since i last saw our national flower so i was pretty excited to get a photo of it.it has a really unique shape because it somehow looks like a girl wearing a dress. Lol

Reflection of December holidays 2013 weichen

My holidays was quite normal. I went to China, Tianjin for two weeks during the December holidays. As it is winter in China, it was very cold, but no matter what I was still hoping that it would snow. Snow in China might not be as clean as in other countries as the air in China is quite polluted. However, when the snow piles up then you can have as much as you want. But it didn't snow so I was very disappointed and upset because I can't spend my time in China as I did last year. Another great thing about China is their cuisine, once you eat their food, you are hooked. I really like China steamboat especially when you put in goat meat in it. Since it's winter, goat meat is perfect for your body. However eating too much will be bad for your body, so I went with my aunt and uncle for badminton matches. In Tianjin, for some reason, all the amusement parks where the children play were all torn down to build museum and such so I couldn't go out to play too. Well to be honest my visit to China was quite boring but I got to know that the China's standard of Chinese and math is higher by a lot than in Singapore. There, Primary 2's work is equals to Singapore's primary 4's work. So it makes me realize than the children in Singapore is more blessed than the children in China as their competitiveness and pressure from peers and parents are completely different from us. So when I came back from China, I went for CCA thrice a week to prepare for our competition next year in April. Well this was how I  spent my December holidays 2013. :)
